Woodrow "Woody" Wright, born to Simon and Gladys Wright on February 9, 1948, in Dade City, Florida, was a figure of spirited vivacity and intelligence from his earliest days. His childhood was characterized by a blend of playful risk-taking and an enchanting fascination with the television character Ricardo, a name he affectionately adopted as his own middle name. Woody's family was an integral part of The Church of God in Christ community in Dade City. Woody's formative years were spent navigating the segregated education system of Pasco County during the 1950s and 1960s. His family life saw significant changes with the death of his father and the introduction of two half-siblings, Sandra and Joseph, following his mother's marriage to Stanley Alleyne. Graduating from Mickens High School in 1966, Woody entered fatherhood with the birth of his daughter Veronica Michelle Wright, shared with his high school sweetheart Paulette Davis. His subsequent military service in Vietnam was marked by profound personal loss. Pursuing higher education, Woody attended Bethune-Cookman College in the early 1970s and later transferred to Florida A&M University. During this period, he married Rozalyne Penix, and they were blessed with two children, Solina Janelle and Woodraun Ricardo. Woody's diverse career path post-college included various jobs across different sectors. Woody and Rozalyne divorced in 1977. Following the divorce, Woody's personal life underwent further changes. In 1986, he and his new companion Essie Kelly Wright became the proud parents of Jana Raye Wright. Amidst the joys and sorrows of life, including the loss of his sister Sandra in 1990, Woody's family continued to grow with the birth of his grandchildren Woodraun Jr., Randy, Kenji, Essence, Raven, and Kenan. In his later years, Woody returned to Florida, immersing himself in the care of his parents and confronting his own health challenges. His life, characterized by steadfast perseverance and a unique spirit, reached its finale on December 16, 2023. Woody's legacy lives on through his children Solina Janelle “Jann” Wright-Hanner (Terry), Woodraun Ricardo “Draun” Wright Sr. (Letisa), Jana Raye Wright, and his grandchildren. He is also fondly remembered by his siblings Larry Wright, Sr., Wallace Wright, Sr., Joseph Alleyne, and his extended family, a testament to the impact he made on the lives he touched.
