Willie B. Thornton

Deacon Willie B. Thornton was born July 22, 1933 in Southaven, Mississippi to the Late Willie Thornton and Addie Herd.  He received his formal education in Mississippi and later relocated to Florida where he met and made many friends.  Deacon Thornton was a very hard working man who provided for his family.  He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his church family.  Deacon Thornton’s wish was always to live to see 100 years of age but God saw fit to take him home. Deacon Thornton was blessed at the age of 83 to still be able to work in his garden and to be of great help to anyone else in need.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.  Deacon Thornton was a faithful member of Glorious Church of God in Christ where he served on the Deacon Board.  On Saturday, August 27, 2016, God called Deacon Thornton home to rest, surrounded by his loving family.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Bessie Mae Mack.  Deacon Thornton is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary L. Thornton; children, Elgin Thornton, Mary W. Thornton-Barnes, Michael Oliver (Holly), Michael Thornton (Kawanita), David Thornton (Crystal) and Kimberly Welcome (Edward); 23 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends.
