Norma Louise Hill Hankerson born March 26, 1933 to Mr. John Henry Hill and Mrs. Austine Hill, in Dade City, Florida. At an early age, Norma confessed her life to Christ and joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Dade City. In 1954, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Joseph Bernard Hankerson in Daytona Beach, Florida. She was educated at Moore Academy in Dade City and at Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach. Because of her thirst for knowledge and desire to educate, inspire, and help formulate the minds of young students, she taught Elementary Education in Volusia County for over 30 years, primarily at Campbell Street Elementary in Daytona Beach and at Osceola Elementary in Ormond Beach. Norma enjoyed imparting knowledge to her students and teaching them; and with an adventurous spirit and zest for learning, she taught her students to have fun in everything they did. Norma was a long time resident of Daytona Beach and a dedicated and faithful servant at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Daytona Beach. She was also a charter member of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Pi Chi Sorority in Dade City; and she was a life time member of the NAACP. Norma had great love and admiration for her family; and she was everyone’s favorite sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Not having any children of her own, she really loved her sisters, nieces, and nephews with a passion. So in 2017 she returned home to Dade City to be close to her family members and to spend more precious and quality time with them. On Wednesday, September 30, 2020, Norma answered the call to be with her Heavenly Father. She had a strong sense of devotion to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Peter, Clifford, James, Theodore, and Lewis; and her sisters, Katherine and Meriel. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: sisters, Rev. Cora E. Hill, Dade City, and Dorothy Johnson, Tampa. Nieces: Clemonstine Blanford, Spring Hill, Florida, Loretta Yvonne Stoudemire (Clark), Prattville, Alabama, Alisha Reed, Angela Pierre-Charles (Luke), Audrey Cooper, Sandra Fields, all of Dade City, Lynn Richardson (Elvin), Garland, Texas, Martha Ann Magno (Carl), Melbourne, Florida, and Debbie Craig, Gainesville, Florida; Nephews: Clifford Hill (Joan), Milton, Florida, Hershel Craig, Noel Craig, Frank Cooper, and Michael Charles Cooper, all of Dade City, Larry Hill, Long Beach, California, Atwell Pride, West Palm Beach, Florida, Reginald Southward (Kathy), Georgia; and very special nephew, Ronald Southward (Shawn), Dade City; and a host of grand nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and special Daytona Beach friends: Mr. & Mrs. Joe Adams, Ms. Corrine Jones, Ms. Doris Gaither, Ms. Mary Johnson, and Mr. Frank Bolden.
