Nicole Mention Obituary

On March 10, 1980, in the city of Dade City, Florida a baby girl was born and she was named Nicole Janell Carter. "Nicki" as she was affectionately called, was born to the union of  Josh Mathis Jr. and Geraldine Carter.  She was a graduate of Pasco High School where she met and made many lasting friendships.   It was there where she met the love of her life, Thomas Mention.  She later attended  Pasco-Hernando State College.  Nicole was a dedicated and faithful member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Culinary Ministry, a member of the Inspirational Choir and also served on the Pastor's Appreciation Committee.  Nicole and her husband, Thomas, were soon to become Church Officials as Thomas accepted the Call to become Deacon at St. John Missionary Baptist Church.   Nicole also served as a member of the Pasco County NAACP (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).   Nicole enjoyed caring for others and nurturing those around her.  She worked for over 15  years in the Nursing field as a Certified Nursing Assistant.  Nicole was a warm-spirited person that loved to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and enjoyed being in her presence.   Nicole was preceded in death by her father, Josh Mathis Jr. and her Sister, Devora Mathis Williams.  On Sunday, March 22, 2020, God called "Nicki" home to her eternal rest.  Those left to cherish her memories are her loving husband and best friend of 24 years, Thomas Mention;  her three sons, Ja'Mal Mention, Ja'Bari Mention and Ja'Mar Mention; one daughter, Tiana Mention; a loving and devoted mother, Geraldine Carter; one brother, James Mathis (Betty); five sisters, Imogene Smith (Barry), Linn Hughes (Tshombe), Veronica  Reed-Farmer (Willie), Normita Woodard and  Bobbie Beasley (Adam);  father-in-law, Thomas L. Mention.; mother-in-law, Sarah Davis; three loving sisters-in-law, Rolisa Davis,  Aretha Davis, and Sarah Stewart; A special uncle, Sylvester Carter (Arwenthar) and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other sorrowing relatives and friends.
