Mr. Ronald Bernard Mitchell, affectionately known to many as “Bubba”, was born May 29, 1948 in Dade City, Florida to the union of the late R.B. Mitchell and the late Dora Morast. Ronald received his formal education at Moore-Mickens Academy, where he met and made many lasting friendships. Ronald later enlisted into the United States Army, where he served for 2 years during the Vietnam War. He was dedicated to his time served in the military, where he worked as a Paramedic/Firefighter. Ronald received many awards and recognitions while serving in the Army, one of which, he received for rescuing and saving other comrades during tough battle times, and for helping to preserve military equipment. Ronald was also known as a “jack of all trades”. You could find Ronald fixing on cars, working on electric, or just being your typical handy man. There wasn’t anything that he could not fix. Ronald was full of wisdom and gifts, which he shared with many. When he returned from the military, he landed a job at Lykes Pasco Fruit Packing Company until his retirement, in 2001. Ronald accepted the Lord as his Personal Savior at an early age and was a lifelong member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ronald B. Mitchell, Jr.; sisters, Helen Mitchell and Debra Mitchell; and his brother, Lewis Mitchell. On Tuesday, February 24, 2026 God called Ronald home to rest and he passed away peacefully. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rita J. Mitchell; his loving children, Carlos Mitchell, Michael (Melissa) Mitchell, and Cedric (Camala) Mitchell; step-children, Syreta McDonald, Dupont Sykes, and Dominique Sykes; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, too many to name; sister, Beverly Mitchell; brother, Milton Mitchell (Sarah); brothers-in-law, Willie Echols, Ernest (Jackie) Echols, Michael Echols, and Ryan Echols; sisters-in-law, Sonja Mitchell, Ruthie L. Echols and Teresa (Jonathan) Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing relatives, friends and god children.
