John Joseph Steiger was born April 23, 1953 in Lawrence, New York to the late James Steiger and the late Ghilba Ferro. He received his formal education in New York, where he met and made many lifelong friends. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose greatest joy in life was the family he built and cherished. On July 24, 1982, he married the love of his life, Wendy, beginning a beautiful marriage that spanned more than 43 years. Together they created a home filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. John was the proud father of three daughters: Nicole Luther (Emery Luther), Blair Noriega (William Noriega), and Melanie Ryback (Jarrod Ryback). He was an even prouder grandfather to six beloved grandsons: Hunter Luther, Liam Noriega, Brooks Noriega, Bennett Noriega, Harrison Ryback, and Holden Ryback. Being “Grandpa” was one of the greatest joys of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with his grandsons. John had a deep love for music that stayed with him throughout his life. He found happiness in playing the guitar and drums, and music was one of the many ways he expressed himself and connected with others. Whether strumming a favorite song or sitting behind a drum set, he brought passion and joy to every note. He also shared a special bond with his dog, Chloe, who brought him companionship and comfort. John will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his generous heart, his sense of humor, and his ability to make those around him feel loved. He was a steady presence, a source of strength, and a man who always put his family first. He was preceded in death by: his parents. James Steiger and Ghilba Ferro. On Thursday May 28, 2026 John passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind: his beloved wife, Wendy Steiger; his daughters and sons-in-law; his six grandsons; and host of extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we take comfort in the love, laughter, music, and memories he leaves behind. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and in the countless lives he touched. He will be forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered.
