Harvey Lorenzo Garland, affectionately known as ''Lorenzo'', was born on April 10, 1969 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Harry L. Garland Sr. and Shirley O. (Cotton) Garland. Harvey was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He received his formal education in the school systems of Portsmouth, Virginia. Harvey proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force for 10 years. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public service as a Federal Corrections Officer at Coleman Federal Prison, where he retired after 20 years of dedicated work, completing a remarkable 30-year career in Federal Service. Known for his strong work ethic, Harvey could always be found lending a hand, even in retirement. He loved his family deeply and treasured relationships with close friends. A man of simple joys, Harvey fondly remembered growing up in the 70's, listening to timeless classics like; Family Reunion by the O'Jays, What's Going On, and Inner City Blues by Marvin Gaye. He was a passionate fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek and rarely missed a moment to showcase his trivia skills, especially during Jeopardy. Harvey also loved football and was a huge fan of the Washington Commanders. Game days were sacred and he could always be found cheering passionately for his team. Harvey Lorenzo Garland was a humble, kind hearted, and hard working man whose presence brought light to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed. Harvey was preceded in death by: his sisters, Constance, Judy, and Rita Garland; his brother, Harry ''June Bug'' Garland; his nephew, Patrick Lorenzo ''Petey'' Garland; and his daughter, Cieha Taylor. Harvey departed this life on Thursday, April 3, 2025. He leaves to carry on his legacy: his loving sons, Lorenzo A. Garland, and Christopher (Porshia) Taylor; four cherished grandchildren, Lorenzo A. Garland Jr., Kyrie' R. Garland, Christopher M. Taylor Jr., and Clyde D. Taylor; two devoted brothers, Tyrone and Marvin Garland; two beloved sisters, Trisha and Valarie Garland; beloved nephews, Brian Garland, Franklin ''Yank'' Garland, and Teon Garland; Treasured nieces: Gwen Garland, Sherry Garland, Erica Garland, Charlene Graham, Shirley Rogers, Chimere Sidney, and Takisha Garland; his life long friend and partner, Canitha Taylor; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and many dear friends.
