Obituary

God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not meant to be, so he put his loving arms around you and whispered, "Come To Me." When we all get to heaven, what day of rejoining that will be! When we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory! He has fought; his fight; he has finished his course; and he has kept the faith.

Minister David Charles Cook, most notably known as "Goose", growing up in the Brooksville community, was born in Otter Creek, Florida to the Late Deacon Mike Cook and Dosha Cook. He relocated with his family to Brooksville, Florida at an early age. He is preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, Timothy James Zimmerman and Leroy "Tim" Cook. Reared by God-fearing parents, David accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church. As a young man, he relocated to Bushnell, Florida, and served many years as a Deacon and Minister at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Webster, Florida until returning to his home church (Ebenezer Missionary Baptist). Upon returning as a faithful servant and avid supporter of the current pastor and church leadership, David was later unanimously voted as Ebenezer Associate Pastor in 2021.

David was educated in the Hernando County School System. He attended Moton High School, and following in his big brother Sam's footsteps, was the last Drum Major at Moton, due to the desegregation of schools in Hernando County. David always gave power-packed, intriguing performances for the mighty marching Bulldogs. He graduated from Hernando High School and was one of the "Starting Forwards" on the 1970 Sunshine Conference Basketball Championship Team.

After High School, David was employed at the Hernando County Rock Mine. After seeing his first paycheck he decided it was not the job for him. He quit! He relocated to Petersburg, Virginia and enlisted in the United States Armed Forces. His career paths led him to many avenues of employment: twenty-five years accumulation combined Marine Corp and National Guard, fifteen Magical Years at Walt Disney, nine Years Chief of Police, Crystal River, Florida, a lifetime of many entrepreneurial ventures, and his final and most enjoyable occupation was managing the hay business with Mr. Frank Sharp in Webster, Florida.

In 2021, David was one of the serval men honored with the Bush-Harper Men's Recognition Award for his humanitarian work by the Tri-Counties People Helping People-African American Heritage Society of East Pasco County.

David's personality emitted joy that pulled others into his presence. He had a special way of connecting with hundreds of people. Laughter was indeed a good medicine for him. He had a caring nature, a sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and many talents. He was a hard worker and a great provider. David was known to be a sharp, stylish eye-catching dresser, and was very meticulous in coordinating his dress outfits.

David loved many things. He loved God, the people of God, and the elderly. He loved cars, clothes, shopping, "fake" wrestling, music, and singing. His favorite song was "Try Jesus, He's Alright," which we sung at his bedside as he was transitioning. He gained his "Heavenly Wings" on Monday, June 12, 2023, just one day prior to his birthday.

David is survived and cherished by his wife, Dr. Sharon Vickers-Cook, Spring Hill, Florida; daughter, Davina Cook Castle (Christopher), Webster, Florida; son, Bryan Mobley (Kierceston), Spring Hill, Florida; 4 siblings: brother, Samuel Cook (Fairella) Brooksville, Florida; sisters, Josephine Anderson, Spring Hill, Florida, Lula Longley, Miami Florida, Naomi Jordan (Charley) Gainesville, Florida; grandchildren, Jordan Braxton Mobley and Kianna Mobley; stepchildren, Leroy Vickers Jr., LeRoyal Vickers, and Sharion LeyToya Vickers; step-grandchildren, Leroi Leshawn Vickers, Leroy Vickers III, Syncere Vickers, Syrenity Vickers, Syeed Vickers, Tafari Bishop; brother-in-law, Rev.
