Dorothy Blackmon Obituary

Dorothy L. Blackmon was born on February 10, 1938, to George and Marguerite Singleton (both preceded her in death) in Pasco County, Florida. The youngest of six, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Gracie M. Youmans, James Singleton Sr., Toni Maria Singleton, Nathaniel J. Singleton, and Fred Singleton. Dorothy L. Blackmon, affectionately known as “Ms. Dot,” enjoyed sewing and loved reading. She became a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and later served as a faithful choir member. She graduated from Moore Academy and retired from Lacoochee Elementary School, where she took great pleasure in cooking for the students. Inside and outside of work, Dorothy was a sweet and dedicated individual. On April 17, 1965, she married Miller L. Blackmon and through their blessed union, they had four children: Alonzo Singleton (Belinda), Randall T. Blackmon, Deidre L. Blackmon, and Tara D. Blackmon. They raised their children and grandchildren in Trilby, FL for 45 years until his death in 2010. In addition to her children, she leaves to cherish her memory five grandchildren: Tiffany Singleton, Breonna Blackmon, Nia Henderson, Alonzo Singleton, and Nylah Blackmon; two great-grandchildren: De’shawn Croson and Tyran Singleton; a daughter-in-love: Conswella Brown, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
