Russell Lowell Thomas, Sr., was born January 6, 1946, in Beckley, WV. The day after graduation he enlisted into the US Air Force, where he served for 21 years. He specialized in aircraft control and served in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Dayton, OH, Sacramento, CA, Cape Newenham, AK, Japan, England, Korea, and Greece. After retirement, he joined the civilian workforce with the US Postal service in 1985 and retired from there in 2012. Russell never took himself too seriously. He always had a joke or something witty to say. He loved everything about sports, loved to travel, and absolutely adored his children and grandchildren. He transitioned from his earthly home July 7, 2024. To cherish all the joyful memories, he leaves his children: Russell L. Thomas, Jr; Diakima Y. Thomas-Davis (Rahsaan); Rushonda L. Thomas; Rushad L. Thomas; and Roslyn N. Thomas: granddaughters, Ariana, Alexis, Ralaia, and Rylah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
