Deacon Edwin Austin Harvey entered this world April 22, 1946, in Columbus, Georgia unto the late Lonnie and Eva Mae Harvey. He attended First African Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia where accepted Christ as his Personal Savior at an early age. Edwin is a 1964 graduate of Spencer High School in Columbus, Georgia where he played trombone in the marching band and participated in various activities at the school and in the community. He matriculated to Columbus College and later enlisted in the United States Army. Having served his country for ten years and becoming a wounded warrior, he returned to Columbus, Georgia for several years until relocating to Tampa, Florida during the early 80’s. Deacon Harvey was a family man and was known for his finger licking Bar-B-Que ribs and peach cobbler. He often invited family and friends over to his house for fun times and was a professional pinochle player, and member of the National Pinochle Association, that afforded him the opportunity to travel to various tournaments across the United States. He was known to express his musical talent by singing at church and various social activities. He was employed by Hillsborough Correctional Institution and retired as a Correctional Sargent in 2008. He was a member of College Hill Church of God In Christ, Tampa, Florida under the leadership of Pastor and Superintendent Charles Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Eva Mae Harvey, his brother Lonnie, daughter Chloe’ Senia and grandson Dominique Collins. Precious memories will always linger in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Dr. Shirley Davis Harvey; son, Kenneth Belcher (Michelle) of Riverview, Florida; grandchildren, Nathaniel Collins, Jr. (Ashley) of Ruskin, Florida, Quinton Holmes of Tampa, Florida, Justin Senia (Dr. Ranyouri Senia) of Riverview, Florida, Marcel Collins (Yamaira) of Port Richey, Florida, and Jasmine Collins of Tampa, Florida; sisters in love, Arnetha Patrick (Hosea) and Gloria Wong; brother in love, Superintendent Mitchell Davis Jr. (Marian) of Land O' Lakes, Florida; he also leaves to cherish fond memories: his first cousins, Willard Walker (Victoria) of Lansing, Michigan, Louella Cain of Jackson, Georgia, Eddie Harris, Peachtree City, Georgia, Loretta Nunnally (Joe) or Atlanta, Georgia, Clarence Harris (Mary Emma) of Sicklerville, New Jersey, Eva Johnson of Fayetteville, Georgia, Paul Harris (Mary) of Grantville, Georgia, Minnie Moore of Riverdale, Georgia, Lydia Mallory of Hampton, Virginia; and a host of relatives and friends who will remember this gentle giant for many years to come.
