Mr. Darnell Bates "Doobbie" was born March 30, 1954 in Rhine, Georgia to the Late Lorenzo Bates and Ruby Galloway. Darnell was reared and nurtured by his loving and devoted father, the Late Henry Duval Pope Sr. Mr. Bates was a very fun and loving person who knew no strangers. He enlisted in the United Sates Army in 1972 where he served until 1982. Darnell was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo Bates; step-father, Henry Duval Pope Sr.; his wife, Helen Parker Bates; and brother, Ardis Lee Pope Sr.. Mr. Bates entered into his eternal rest on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Advent Health, Tampa, Florida. He is survived by his loving and devoted children: Karolyn R. Banks and husband, Larry J. Banks, Shybra Parker, Shay King and Phillip Parker Sr.; grandchildren, Laryssa M. Banks, Larry K. Banks, Ka'Darrion Parker, Phillip Parker Jr., KaMoni Parker, Kamryn Parker, Kendall King, Jr., Myah King and Tyja Beans; his loving and devoted mother, Ruby A. Pope; his siblings, Henry D. Pope Jr. and wife, Deloris, Yvonne Davis and Dorothy Stewart and husband, John; god sister, Debra Creer; aunt, Lillian Clemons; a special adopted family, the Missouri family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing relatives and friends.

Seating during services may be limited so please be considerate of the immediate family especially.
