Betty Courtney Obituary

Betty Jean Courtney was born January 15, 1955 to the Late Abraham Pates Sr. and Melissa Pates in Hastings, Florida. Betty completed high school at Walters & Harris High School in Hastings, Florida. Betty enjoyed helping people, cooking and cleaning. She accepted Christ and joined New Jerusalem Church of God under the leadership of her sister, Pastor Mae Ross. She served there until her health began to decline. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Courtney; both of her parents; her sister, Earlyne Gilmore; and brothers, Rayfield Pates and George Pates. On Saturday, September 11, 2021, god closed Betty's loving eyes and whispered "peace by thine". Betty is survived by her loving and devoted children, Christine Anderson, Jannie (Marcell) Clark, Gwendolyn Pates; sons, Anthony Pates and Herman Courtney III; sisters, May Ross (Henry), Rosie Bristol (Willie), Gladys Rives, and Ida Mae Pates; brothers, Abraham Pates Jr., Isaiah Pates (Hope), Mayfield Pates and Adriel Pates; a special niece, Tracina Spell; special friend, James Anderson; and a host of sorrowing grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other sorrowing relatives and friends.

 

 

*Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have implemented necessary procedures during Visitations, Funeral Ceremonies, Gravesides, and other public and private ceremonies.  We do ask that all visitors of these services to please continue to wear your masks and please remember to social distance.  These new policies may be inconvenient, but due to the severity of the virus, we ask that everyone be considerate, patient, and safe with others as we try to get through this most difficult time.  Seating during services may be limited so please be considerate of the immediate family especially.  

*If you are attending a Graveside service or an Outdoor Celebration you are welcomed to bring your own chair as seating will be limited!  We will provide water to make everyone as comfortable as possible.  We thank you in advance for your cooperation during this time. We pray that everyone stays safe and cooperative with the current CDC rules.
