Agnes Mathis Obituary

Mother Agnes Elizabeth Perkins-Mathis, affectionately called Mother Perkins, made her Heavenly  transition to be with our Lord and Savior, on June 13, 2019. She was born January 5, 1923, to Sandy Monroe and Lee McClendon, in Twin Lakes, FL.   At an early age, she embraced the ministry that was set before her. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and devoted her life to the study of the Word. Under her leadership, she has held a series of prayer meetings, Bible studies and revivals. She  dedicated time to the nursing home ministry. She has remained faithful to Christ throughout her life, serving dutifully at Church of God in Christ in many roles.  Until her health condition made it impossible, Mother Perkins was active in the life of the church, working with many ministry efforts. She was a loving mother and homemaker! Mother Perkins was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially during the holidays. She prepared meals so each child could enjoy their favorite dish.  Her special hobbies were crochet and gardening. Mother Perkins exemplified a strong work ethic. She retired from Kraft Foods, Inc., as a fruit sectionizer and painter. After a brief break, she worked for Darby Farms for more than fifteen years.  She is preceded in death by her father and mother; her siblings Willie and Jesse McClendon Sr. , Laura Farmer, Mary Green and Monroe McClendon; and a son-in-law, L.V. Wells.  She is survived by her loving children Hazel Wells, Marilyn Hunter (Phillip), Bishop Larry E. Perkins (Hattie), and Elder Robert Perkins;  7 grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; her brother, Lawrence McClendon; sisters-in-law, Johanna McClendon and Ola Mae McClendon;and God son, Tony Dawkins (Sherrie); and a host of her many nephews, nieces and her dear friends and caregivers. She loved and touched deeply, many hearts and souls.
