Mother Cleola Barber Polite was born in Iron City, Georgia to the Late Rayfield and Lillie B. Ford. She was the fourth child of five siblings; four preceded her in death (Ramsey, Rayfield, Lewis and Leola). She was also preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Lillie B. Wells. She attended public schools in Miller County and Donaldson, Georgia. She worked in the Nursing field and operated her own home Daycare until retirement. Mother Barber-Polite accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at a young age. She and Deacon Leonard Barber moved to San Antonio, Florida in the late 50’s and became a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. They later moved their membership to St. John Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend J. E. Harmon. Mother Barber-Polite served in numerous capacities at St. John; Choir Number One, Choir Number Three, as well as Deaconess and advisor to the Inspirational Choir. Mother Barber-Polite leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Jackie Barber (Christine), Mike L. Barber (“Ronnie”) (Gloria); two daughters, Judy B. Thompson (James) and Pam B. Harmon (Baron); nine grandchildren, Stacy Barber, TaShaney B. Walker, Mike V. Barber, Kevin Thompson, Ashlie Harmon, Justin Barber, Monique B. Carter, Gelvin Harmon and Jacklyn B. Duke. A host of great grands, nieces and nephews. Mary Smith is affectionately considered the adopted daughter of the family.
